Jessalyn Reid Mahoney

Founder & President

Jessalyn Reid Mahoney founded Sunny Day Strategies with the core conviction that smart digital strategy will change the way everyday people connect with the leaders, organizations, and brands around them. By now, the word “digital” doesn’t mean any one thing in the toolkit — it could refer to social media, or emails, or websites, or video content, or advertising — but really when we talk about digital, we’re talking about connection.

Under Jessalyn’s leadership, Sunny Day Strategies has built a model of digital program building that focuses on authenticity, honesty, and connection, with a few beliefs about the world that inform our work: People want to know what their leaders are thinking and feeling. They want to read good, engaging political emails — not immediately delete them. They want to be a part of the solution to whatever challenges we are facing. With this foundation, Sunny Day Strategies creates unique and compelling programs to help campaigns, candidates, and organizations build a truly connected online community that supports the work ahead.

Jessalyn has led Sunny Day’s strategic work across a variety of clients since its inception in 2018 and has run digital programs for local, state, and federal political campaigns as well as non-profit organizations.

Her work advising the Democratic National Committee in the 2020 general election resulted in the highest-raising grassroots fundraising program in DNC history*.  Jessalyn is an expert at building and optimizing large-scale online programs for political candidates and issue-based organizations.

During the 2020 Democratic primary, Jessalyn led a massive, multi-million dollar digital program on behalf of Democratic Presidential candidate Tom Steyer. In the 2018 cycle, she helped secure a 16-point victory for Senator Tim Kaine — and three flipped House seats down the ticket — through aggressive fundraising, digital organizing, and paid media campaigns. She has also done digital work for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, at Blue State Digital’s west coast headquarters, and with Battleground Texas.

Jessalyn is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, and a proud midwesterner. She lives in Washington, DC with her husband and two dogs, Ruby and Pepper.

*Barring the outlier of 2004, when public campaign financing operated differently, and John Kerry centralized all presidential fundraising into the DNC, rather than through his own campaign. Fun fact!
